[Attribute of Creation and Will]

وَالإِرَادَةُ صِفَةٌ للَّهِ تَعَالَى أَزَلِيَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ بِذَاتِهِ تَعَالَى.

017- The will (irāda)1 is an eternally existent attribute of God, the exalted, of His essence.

  1. This and the previous paragraph are in contradistinction to the philosophical doctrine of emanation, Neoplatonic philosophy, Plotinus (d. 270 CE) as advanced by Ibn Sīnā (d. 428/1037). The act of creating presumes that there is a will to create by a creator.
