[Concerning the rank of the Saints, the Esotericist, the feeling of Security and Despair, the diviner, the Non-Existent, and prayers for the dead]

وَفِي دُعَاءِ الأَحْيَاءِ لِلأَمْوَاتِ وَصَدَقَتِهِمْ عَنْهُمْ نَفْعٌ لَهُمْ. واللَّهُ تَعَالَى يُجِيبُ الدَّعَوَاتِ وَيَقْضِي الحَاجَاتِ.

048- The living can benefit the dead by supplication (duʿāʾ) and charitable giving (taṣadduq). God answers supplications and fullfils needs.¹

1. The benefit for the dead as these actions will increase their reward in the hereafter. God answers supplications as He sees fit, in a manner as He pleases and at a time and place of His chosing, be it in this life or as a reward in the next.
